Portraits are supposed to be "good" photos of people, or their pets.
I believe a portrait should show more of the person than just what they look like.

A portrait should show a little of what's inside as well.

A portrait doesn't have to be "normal", you might want it to show your "alternate" or "fantasy" self.
You may want to be a pinup.
