Karen Ramsey Edens' Art
Karen has been an artist since she was a small child. Both she and her twin sister were encouraged to draw whenever their older sisters were watching them; “It kept us quiet” they said. Karen studied advertising art at Chattanooga State, and then she worked at an advertising firm in Chattanooga. Karen's pencil of the walnut street bridge is still often mistaken for a photograph. In 1981 Karen, during brain tumor surgery, suffered a severe stroke that paralyzed the right side of her body. Karen, with her mom at her side, proceeded to re-teach herself how to write, talk, walk, and hold a paintbrush. In 1987 Karen sold the first painting since her stroke. She has since managed to use her painting to “lighten moods” as she says and shine as an example of how determination and God can overcome most any difficulty..
